There have been a few notable player acquisitions in the past few days. None are worthy enough of their own post, but I figure a recap post is in order.
This acquisition makes sense to me. The Blazers have been buying the second round pick of the Phoenix Suns for the past 20 years (okay 2) in a row. This year, Phoenix wasn’t having any of that! Instead, they drafted and actually signed the second round pick. It was actually San Antonio’s pick that was traded to Phoenix…
They are saying Dragic will be the backup to Steve Nash. This seems pretty desperate to me. Maybe they regret selling us the pick that turned into Sergio Rodriguez.
Devean George gets to more years in Dallas
In an effort to remain NBA’s dying dinosaur, Dallas gave Devean George a new contract. This is sort of a “who cares” for me, but good for George, he will get another 4 million for two more years of service. That’s about how long I give Dallas to even be a serviceable team.
The Rattler is Back (in Phili)
Remember when Theo Ratliff was averaging like 5 blocks a game for Portland in that half season when we traded for him. Man that was fun. They would post up a big picture of a basketball for each block in the Rose Garden. Well, the 76ers remember, and for nothing else besides nostalgia, they have signed Ratliff to return to the city of Brotherly Love.
I really don’t think this matters. He’s 35 and hasn’t been a real NBA player for the past few years. He did see some minutes in the playoffs for Detroit, but that doesn’t surprise me. He was a good player, and even old men can show up for the playoffs. Maybe that is the 76ers logic, if they make the playoffs (which I think they should) Ratliff could come in handy. He sure can’t bang with Oden down low though.
Donyell Marshall Not Going to OKC
The now former Sonic is not moving to Oklahoma City. The veteran was waived by the team after 14 years in the NBA. He didn’t really do anything in Seattle after being traded by Cleveland. While in Cleveland he proved that old men can still shoot threes, and his shooting was key to the run Cleveland made in the playoffs two years ago. I think there might be a team out there for Marshall. For nothing else, he’ll make Sportscenter when he forgets to put his jersey on again before going in the game.
